TAKE ACTION to demand justice for Topacio Reynoso and her father

Topacio no impunity sign

On April 13, 2014, unknown gunmen attacked 16-year-old Topacio Reynoso Pacheco and her father, Alex Reynoso, killing Topacio and leaving Alex seriously injured. Both were active in their municipality of Mataquescuintla, standing up for land and the health of the planet in the fight against Tahoe Resources’ Escobal mine in neighboring San Rafael las Flores.

Three years later and little has been done to bring Topacio’s attackers to justice.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

Please take a moment to sign this action demanding that Guatemala’s Special Prosecutor’s Office on Human Rights expedite a full and impartial investigation into the attacks against Topacio Reynoso  and her father Alex.

KAIROS has signed on to the organizational letter of concern, found here in English or in Spanish.

When Topacio was killed in April 2014, KAIROS wrote a statement of expressing grave concern and demanding justice.

There are many ongoing KAIROS connections with Topacio and her legacy.   Luis Fernando, one of the Guatemalan delegates on the Blanket Exercise exchange, helped form the youth group JODVID, after Topacio’s death, to commemorate her life and work.  In August 2017, when the KAIROS youth delegation travels to Guatemala we plan to meet with this youth group, to visit Luis Fernando’s community (El  Volcancito) and possibly to stay in the Mataquescuintla where Topacio lived.
