Fredericton, NB/For Immediate Release                      Friday, June 11, 2010

WHO:           KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives in conjunction with the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition and the Council of Canadians presents KAIROS Southern and Indigenous partners speaking out about the connection between climate justice and the G20.

This presentation is organized locally by members of KAIROS churches including Saint James Hanwell and Wilmot United Church.

WHAT:          Town hall meeting, discussion and soup supper

WHERE:        Wilmot United Church, 473 King St., Fredericton

WHEN:                   Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 5:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

WHY:            While Canada welcomes the world’s most powerful leaders to the G-8 and G20 summits in June, KAIROS and Canadians welcome Southern and Indigenous partners to share with us the real impacts of climate change on their daily lives and to discuss what a just solution to the climate crisis could look like.

Those who are most affected by climate change have no place at the G20 decision-making table. This “Global Town Hall” is a chance for Canadians to come together in a dialogue of real substance to talk about real solutions.

Participants will have an opportunity to hear from partners and local experts and engage in dialogue with them and each other as they search for effective solutions to the global injustice of climate change.

Partners participating in the Fredericton stop of the tour are:

Isaiah Kipyegon Toroitich, Program Officer for Policy and Advocacy (Climate and Economic Justice), Norwegian Church Aid in Kenya.

Naty Atz Sunc, General Coordinator of CEIBA, the Association for Community Development and Promotion, Guatemala.

Local speakers are Nadine Ives from the NB Lung Association’s Climate Change Hub, and Toby Couture who will present the youth perspective.
