KAIROS Signs on to open letter in support of the Shuar Arutam People in Ecuador

Accion Ecologica

Over 100 organizations from across the globe have signed an open letter—co-written by KAIROS partner Acción Ecológica, MiningWatch Canada, and others—in solidarity with the Shuar Arutam People (PSHA) in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Letter signatories join the PSHA in condemning the Government of Ecuador for sanctioning the continuation of extractive operations despite the threat and now outbreaks of COVID-19 in and around Indigenous communities. The letter also denounces the militarization of territories of the Ecuadorian Amazon as well as the extractive sector’s attempts to use the pandemic to clean their corporate image.

KAIROS invites its member churches and church organizations to support calls of solidarity to the PSHA.
