A cry for peace – statement of solidarity of the Jolo Bombing

On January 27, 2019, in one of the deadliest attacks in the Philippines in recent years, a bombing of a church in Jolo, Sulu, Mindanao, during a Sunday Mass, claimed the lives of more than 20 worshipers, including civilians and soldiers around the area, injuring 112 people as well.   In the following statement, KAIROS partner the National Council of Churches of the Philippines (NCCP) expresses solidarity for the victims and their families,  calling for an impartial investigation and peace talks that address the root causes of this deadly conflict.

The persistent and continuing cry for peace in Mindanao calls for solidarity and

immense sincerity among churches and the faithful to put their acts together in

working for peace based on justice. Even more so, it amplifies the urgent call for

the government to deal with peace issues and pave the way in addressing the

roots of armed conflict in the area.

KAIROS affirms our solidarity with partners and, with them, seeks lasting peace in the Philippines. Find below the statement from our partner in the Philippines-
