World Student Christian Federation – Africa partnership #KAIROS20

I had the opportunity to work with KAIROS and more directly with 3 Staff – John Mihvec (late), John Dillon (late) and Jim Davis. All very instrumental in supporting voices from the “South” on critical issues concerning our lives and perspectives. Which at one point were only raised by some northern NGOs who were despite their good will wasn’t very much aware of  situation in the ground. The socio-economic and human impact of external debt of Africa in the 2000’s and the imposed Structural Adjustment Program (SAP). They organised our participation to the international fora to better present to the public how we were impacted. Voices and struggles from the South were very key to understand what were our plea and ordeal and what were our perspectives and solutions. Not solutions thought without us by others but our vision of development and our strategies to get there.

Apart of the support above, we got financial support from KAIROS to implement some of our activities that were really instrumental in changing lives:

  • Women economic empowerment programs.
  • Trainings on human rights and peace programs.
  • Support to sensitize on the HIV and AIDS pandemic in Africa and the dissemination of information to student communities I was working with. All of the sensitization campaigns on the pandemic saved a lot of lives and minimized the stigmatization in many communities.
  • Conflict resolution programs. Many young ladies and men are working in some communities where conflicts are erupting around water sources, between herdsmen and agriculturalist. Peaceful conflict resolutions techniques have spread in some of these communities and open and violent conflicts are no longer a panacea there.

MY VERY HEARTFELL THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT AND WONDERFUL SUPPORT – FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AND FROM YOUNG PEOPLE WHO BENEFITED FROM THE TRAININGS AND FUNDING.

Georgine Kengne Djeutane is currently the Consent & the Right to Say No Coordinator at the Womin African Alliance. She previously worked at the World Student Christian Federation – Africa, with KAIROS supported programs until 2010.
