Stop Rape in Conflict Campaign

…. it’s vital that women not stay inactive, not submit day after day…On the contrary, we must stand up, act, and denounce. Let’s break the silence, claiming back from those who hold power the use of diverse legal instruments that protect the rights of women. In so doing, we can change the situation of women throughout the world.  Let women all over the world take their courage in hand to continue the struggle, this struggle that includes all of us. To keep ourselves silent is to kill ourselves little by little. May we be courageous.

Chantal Bilulu, Hériters de la Justice, Democratic Republic of the Congo, KAIROS Living Courage Tour, Canada, October 2011.

KAIROS joins human rights and women’s organizations, and partners from around the world, in endorsing the International Campaign to Stop Rape and Gender Violence in Conflict.  The campaign, founded by the Nobel Women’s Initiative (NWI), is the first global collaboration between Nobel Peace Laureates, international advocacy organizations, and regional and community groups working in conflict areas to stop rape. The campaign calls for bold political leadership to prevent rape in conflict areas and to protect civilians and rape survivors. It also demands justice for all—including the effective prosecution of those responsible. These issues are of profound importance to KAIROS partners and remain a focus of the Women of Courage program.
