On October 19, Canadians elected a new government. KAIROS Canada congratulates Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau on his successful campaign. KAIROS also appreciates the candidates from all parties who put themselves forward for public office. We look forward to working with all Parliamentarians elected to the 42nd Parliament.

Canada`s integrity is dependent upon this Parliament working with Indigenous peoples on a nation-to-nation basis. KAIROS looks forward to engaging with the Government of Canada to ensure that the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission are implemented and that a new relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada emerges within the context of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

KAIROS affirms the need for the new Government to engage Canadians in the development of a clean energy economy for Canada that addresses the causes of climate change and moves us towards a just and sustainable future. On the global stage, the new Government must re-establish a leadership role in climate justice and demonstrate a willingness to hold Canadian resource extraction companies to account for their international operations.

KAIROS anticipates foreign and international development policies that advance human rights, alleviate poverty and bring about transformational change. This Government must also ensure the rights of refugees and migrants are fully protected as part of a commitment to generous and inclusive welcome.

KAIROS appreciates policy developed through community engagement, and seeks to collaborate with Parliamentarians in exploring innovative solutions to our country`s challenges. We also take seriously our responsibility to hold governments to account.

Love of neighbour and respect for creation are not only ideals, they are commitments that can be made real by working together. This has been a long campaign, but we know that the real work starts now.
