Seeking new participants in the Prairies North Region

KAIROS blanket exercise in regina

Are you interested in justice for Indigenous peoples, land defenders, migrants, women and the Earth? Are you intrigued by the idea of networking with others on local and international issues of peace, justice and equity?  Are you looking for a new experience or a place to use your skills and make a difference with a national organization that focuses on building relationships of respect and reciprocity, and working towards reconciliation with people and the land?  Do you have 3-4 hours per month to commit to building justice networks in your region? If so, KAIROS is looking for you!

KAIROS Canada is looking to reinvigorate the KAIROS Prairies North Coordinating Committee!  The Prairies North region covers Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. The Coordinating Committee is a volunteer group that shapes and supports the work of the KAIROS network in the region. The KAIROS network and this committee includes everyone one who wants to actively engage in social and ecological issues together. All are welcome! You are invited to apply or to nominate someone who you think could make a positive contribution in this coordination of justice work.

Group size: 6-12 people

Time commitment: monthly phone/video calls for 60-90 minutes (usually skipping July, August, December). An average of 1-2 hours of follow up tasks per month. One in-person longer meeting each year if possible. Attendance at the annual Regional Gathering (often a weekend) as often as possible.

Term: 2 year, renewable

Group Tasks (there is flexibility in how things get done and lots of staff support for all these tasks):

  • follow your passions for Indigenous, migrant, gender or ecological justice!
  • organize or find people to organize an annual regional gathering on KAIROS themes
  • manage a small regional grant for event or initiative expenses
  • have open, regular communication with KAIROS local groups across the region, support their work as best you can
  • encourage the development of new KAIROS local groups when opportunities arise
  • maintain regular communication and participation with KAIROS national

Mandate: The regional Coordinating Committees represent KAIROS in the region, reflecting the diversity and commitments of the entire region and working on a breadth of issues. For a taste of the kind of work KAIROS does, see the website or Strategic Plan; Regional work may reflect this, as well as reflecting the needs and context of the Prairies North Region.

To apply or nominate: For more information or to apply for a position on the committee please send an email to Shannon Neufeldt at sneufeldt@kairoscanada.org before May 1.  Please include contact information, a bit about who you are, your time availability, familiarity with KAIROS, and why you want to be involved.

Why volunteer? This is an opportunity for you to be engaged in a well-known, national organization that is on the forefront of many justice issues. Letters of recognition for volunteer work can always be provided. KAIROS offers you the opportunity to network nationally and potentially with international partners. A sense of fulfillment for valuable work, companions on the path seeking justice, and many life-long friendships with people of similar values have been the results for past volunteers.
