May 14: CNCA Webinar with KAIROS partners and federal MPs

Month of action for mining justice

On Thursday, May 14th, join KAIROS, KAIROS partners from the Philippines, and other members of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA), including Development and Peace and the United Church of Canada, for a webinar during the Month of Action for Mining Justice.

The webinar will kick off CNCA’s e-petition demanding that the Government of Canada strengthen rules for business and uphold human rights in the mining, energy, and garment sectors by empowering the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Business Enterprise (CORE) and enacting mandatory human rights due diligence (mHRDD) legislation.

The webinar will highlight the work of human rights defenders in the Philippines, the Brazilian Amazon and Bangladesh, including Cristina (Tinay) Palabay, General Secretary of KARAPATAN, a coalition of Philippine human rights organizations, a member of EcuVoice, and a partner of KAIROS and the United Church.

The webinar will also give you an opportunity to hear directly from federal Members of Parliament who will be speaking on the importance of corporate accountability.

Read Development and Peace’s statement to learn more about the webinar.
