KAIROS called for decisive action, guided by lasting moral values, to respond to the global financial crisis in a January 24, 2009, letter to the Prime Minister and the Leaders of the Provinces and Territories. It looked to them for transformative policies to “invest meaningfully in a new economic framework that will combat poverty, ill health and climate change.” The letter set our four ethical principles as the essential foundation for public policy to respond to the economic crisis:
