KAIROS Canada and two of its Women of Courage: Women, Peace and Security program partners – Héritiers de la Justice (DRC) and Wi’am: Palestinian Conflict Transformation Centre (West Bank), have signed on to an open letter published by the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security (NGOWG) calling on all UN Member States to prioritize women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in all aspects of peace and security. 558 civil society organizations from across the world endorsed the letter in observance of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. This letter elevates the voices of women peacebuilders, leaders and activists from around the world in a collective call to Member States to commit their full support to full, equal and meaningful participation of women in all aspects of peace and security.

Among the recommendations is  prioritizing  the legitimate work of women human rights defenders who face increasing repression, threats and violence including gender-based violence (GBV) in retaliation for their work, which deters their full participation in peace and security processes.

Read or download the open letter available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian
