Congratulations to the OFP on their 49th anniversary
This week the Organización Femenina Popular (OFP) celebrates their 49th anniversary.
The OFP will be hosting two public events in Spanish this week to commemorate the organization’s forty-nine years:
- Thursday, July 22 at 5:00pm EDT | Virtual conversation on the feminist economic alternatives on Facebook Live via the OFP’s Facebook account
- Saturday, July 24 at 10:00am EDT | Virtual forum on the 49 years of women’s political participation for peace via Zoom. Please contact gjimenez@kairoscanada.org for Zoom meeting details.
Below is the congratulatory letter, in Spanish and English, that KAIROS sent the OFP.
KAIROS Letter to OFP on their 49th anniversary
Dear members and staff of the OFP,
Congratulations on your 49 years defending life and territory in the Magdalena Medio region! The OFP has been, is, and will continue to be a referent at the national and international level for your unwavering commitment to gender justice.
It is an honor for KAIROS to be able to collaborate with you all for all these years. KAIROS recognizes the reach and scope of your work in the construction of a Colombia based on peace and justice: the clarity and urgency of your gender-based analysis, the creativity of your programming and advocacy, the organizational capacity of members and staff, all the effort that goes into accompanying youth, families, and migrants. Thank you!
In the middle of this pandemic and the worsening of the socio-political situation, the OFP continues to accompany and dream with the women of the Magdalena Medio in the streets, in homes and offices, and now virtually as well–not an easy accomplishment. It is seen, it is felt, the OFP is present!
Hopefully we can be with you all in person to celebrate your fiftieth anniversary next year. For the moment, know that KAIROS is with you from Canada.

Estimadas mujeres y personal de la Organización Femenina Popular:
¡Felicidades por sus 49 años defendiendo la vida y el territorio en el Magdalena Medio! La OFP ha sido, es, y será un referente al nivel nacional e internacional por su inquebrantable compromiso por la justicia de género.
Para KAIROS es un honor poder colaborar con todas, todos, y todes ustedes durante todos estos años. KAIROS reconoce el alcance y magnitud del trabajo de la OFP en la construcción de una Colombia basada en paz y justicia: la claridad y urgencia de su análisis con enfoque en género, la creatividad de su programación e incidencia, la capacidad organizativa de las mujeres y el personal, el esfuerzo para acompañar a las, los, y les jóvenes, las familias de sectores populares, y las personas migrantes. ¡Gracias!
En medio de esta pandemia y el empeoramiento de la situación sociopolítica, la OFP sigue acompañando y soñando con las mujeres del Magdalena Medio en casas, oficinas, y consultorios, por las calles, y ahora también por medios virtuales–logro que no es fácil. ¡Se ve, se siente, la OFP está presente!
Ojalá podamos estar con ustedes en persona para celebrar su cincuentenario el próximo año. Por el momento, sepan que desde Canadá KAIROS las, los, y les acompaña.
