EventsOTTAWA: Mass Blanket Exercise: The Blanketed Truth Covering Turtle Island

Sunday, May 31, 2015 EDT @ 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Assembly of Seven Generations (A7G) has been inspired by the Blanket Exercise, created by KAIROS, to hold a mass scaled exercise on Parliament Hill to help educate and reconcile the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. As the closing of the TRC nears, it is more important than ever that all Canadians know the blanketed truth covering Turtle Island, the truth we are not taught in schools.

The exercise takes participants into the roles of Indigenous people and puts them in the moccasins of first peoples. It allows participants to role play through the perspective of Indigenous people from first contact to present day. This Indigenous perspective reveals more than the textbook version of Canadian history and reinvigorates important key facts lost in translation. It touches down on subjects such as our treaties, the Indian act, Residential schools and much more.

We will be hosting this event shortly after the Reconciliation Walk on May 31, as part of KAIROS’s Time for Reconciliation Gathering.

We hope this will be a huge turn out! The event is open to all, so spread the word like a bird and tell everyone! Know some friends that might be interested invite them, the more people we have stronger the message will be!

We will be recording this event to make social media video in hopes it will go viral.
