This lecture is cosponsored by Canadian Friends of Sabeel and Emmanuel College (of UofT).

Rafeef Ziadah is an acclaimed Palestinian refugee poet and human rights activist. Her poems ‘We Teach Life, Sir’ and ‘Shades of Anger’ went viral within days of their release. ‘We Teach Life, Sir’ is an impassioned attack on media misrepresentation of the Palestinian cause as well as the title of her latest album. Rafeef is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at SOAS, University of London. We are honoured and excited to hear her lecture at this year’s James Graff Memorial Lecture, as well as perform a couple of pieces.

The annual James Graff Memorial Lecture was established in beloved memory of University of Toronto philosophy professor, husband, father, and tireless peace advocate. Dr. James Graff founded of NECEF, Canada’s oldest Middle East peace education NGO. In October 2005, Jim was still teaching as well as actively working for peace before he died later that month.

*NECEF’s official charity name has since been changed to NECEF Sabeel Canada. The charity is publicly known as Canadian Friends of Sabeel.

Canadian Friends of Sabeel is a Christian ecumenical organization seeking justice and peace in the Holy Land through non-violence and education. Sabeel, or ‘the way’, is an international peace and justice movement initiated by Palestinian Christians. Learn more about us at http://www.necefsabeel.ca
