The third installment of PRESENCIA features a multicultural mashup of powerhouse female MCs representing Guatemala, Egypt and Turtle Island.

// Rebeca Lane
Rebeca Lane was born in Guatemala City in 1984, living first hand the final stages of the war and it’s aftermath in her country. From a young age she spent time as an active participant at organizations seeking truth and justice. It was then when she realized that women were not really involved in leadership roles within these movements, and became interested in feminism. As a poet and rapper, her lyrics deal with her womanhood and imposed heterosexuality as well as colonization and militarization of her native land.

// Nari
Nari (‘my fire’ in Arabic) is an Egyptian poet, Hip Hop and spoken word artist based out of Toronto. Nari’s work is rooted in her political views and truths. She is an active mentor and voice in Toronto’s LGBTQ Community. Known for her passion in working with youth, Nari strives to be a strong example, for young women especially, through work-shop facilitation, school visits and presentations. She is true believer in elevating youth with knowledge; access and solid societal support to have all the tools they need to affect change even beyond their communities.

// Briskool
A multidisciplinary Indigenous artist and member of Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation, Briskool weaves her passion for the arts with her excitement for community organizing and social justice. She is excited to continue sharing her talents with the community and delivering an essential narrative from the lived experience of an Anishinaabe Kwe living on Turtle Island in a modern context.
