ISSUES THAT MATTER TO HOST PROMINENT
NATIONAL AND REGIONAL SPEAKERS
OTTAWA (April 24, 2015) – Issues that Matter is proud to announce that it will be hosting two community discussions next month on the need for a New Partnership between First Peoples and all Canadians. Featured speakers at the first event, on May 20 in Ottawa, will be Mary Simon, a distinguished Canadian and former national representative of Inuit, and Sheila Fraser, a respected former Auditor General of Canada. Both are members of the Board of Directors for Canadians For a New Partnership.
‘Issues that Matter’ is an Ottawa-based group of volunteers seeking to increase opportunities for public discussion and dialogue on a variety of issues. The group is non-partisan and its aim is to increase the level of public discourse by organizing talks, discussions groups and other forms of interchange or dialogue on Issues That Matter to Canadians.
“We are very pleased that Ms. Simon and Ms. Fraser will be sharing their perspectives on the issues facing Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal relations and why we need a new partnership,” said Mark Mueller, one of the founding members of Issues That Matter. “We believe public interest on this issue is strong and that is why a second session will be held on May 27 with area community leaders. Former Chief Whiteduck of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and Gabrielle Fayant an activist and Vice-President of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre will be focusing on local and regional dimensions of such a new partnership.”

‘Issues That Matter’ accueuille des intervenants nationaux et régionaux renommés
OTTAWA (24 Avril, 2015) – ‘Issues That Matter’ est fier d’annoncer qu’il organise le mois prochain deux groupes de discussions communautaires concernant le besoin d’établir un nouveau partenariat entre les Premières Nations et les Canadiens et Canadiennes. Mary Simon, canadienne renommée et ancienne représentante des Inuits, et Sheila Fraser, ancienne vérificateur général du Canada distinguée, seront les intervenantes au premier groupe de discussion qui aura lieu le 20 mai à Ottawa. Mme Simon et Mme Fraser sont membres du conseil d’administration du groupe ‘Canadians for a New Partnership’ (‘Canadiens pour un nouveau partenariat’).
‘Issues That Matter’ est un groupe non-partisan de bénévoles originaires d’ Ottawa qui cherche à accroître les débats publics et les dialogues sur plusieurs questions importantes pour les Canadiens. A cette fin, le groupe organise des présentations, des groupes de discussion et d’autres formes d’échanges et dialogues publics.
«Nous sommes très heureux que Mme Simon et Mme Fraser partagent leurs perspectives concernant les relations autochtones et non-autochtones, et les questions pour lesquelles nous avons besoin d’un nouveau partenariat», a déclaré Mark Mueller, un des membres fondateurs du groupe ‘Issues That Matter’. «Nous croyons qu’il y a un intérêt public très fort sur ces questions et c’est la raison pour laquelle une deuxième session aura lieu le 27 mai avec des dirigeants communautaires de la région. L’ancien chef Whiteduck de Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg et Gabrielle Fayant, militante et vice-président de l’’Odawa Native Friendship Centre’ discuteront des enjeux locaux et régionaux d’un tel nouveau partenariat “.
