Supreme Court decisions and international human rights standards – including the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples – recognize the right of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples to make their own decisions about resource development on their lands and other important issues.
This symposium is an opportunity to discuss this important standard of free, prior and informed consent, its status in Canadian and international law, and its relevance in crucial decisions facing Indigenous peoples today. Join us to learn more about FPIC, share your own experiences, and help identify practical recommendations going forward.
