EventsToronto: Niigaani-gichigami Gratitude Walk and Festival

Friday, June 8, 2018 EDT @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

How do we live on the Lake in a good way?
How can we express gratitude for the waters we depend on?
How can we heal our communities and come together in our diversity?

All are welcome to join us for our second annual Niigaani-gichigami Gratitude Walk, beginning at 6pm at the Sherboune Common (waterfront, south of Queen’s Quay and Lower Sherbourne St) to come together as a diverse and interfaith community to acknowledge our interdependence on the waters, our different traditions, the land, and one another. Our Gratitude Festival will be opened by elder Wanda Whitebird, offering a Water Ceremony, followed by prayers from several faith leaders. After prayers of gratitude and for the health of Niigaani-gichigami/Lake Ontario, and all the waterways connected to it, we will be led by drummers on a prayer walk. We will conclude the short walk at St James Park (King and Church St) for a festival in celebration of water and community.

The festival will feature a free BBQ, live music, art activities, and more!

Come one and all, and invite your friends!

If you cannot attend the Water Ceremony and Walk, please join us around 8pm at King and Church St for the BBQ and Festival!
