KAIROS is once again participating in the annual 16 Days to End Gender Based Violence through an online campaign that amplifies the voices of KAIROS’ Women of Courage partners and other influential women through a series of memes. This UN-based awareness campaign launched on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Several KAIROS staff travelled to Colombia from November 20 to 30 for an “eye-opening” tour of the work of the Organization Femenina Popular (OFP), its Women of Courage: Women, Peace and Security partner. They visited several cities and towns to learn firsthand from OFP staff and beneficiaries of its effective work that helps women, who are impacted by violence, become active peacebuilders in a country striving for “total peace.” This tour was supposed to include members from Wi'am: Palestinian Conflict Transformation Center. While they could not participate due to the war between Israel and Hamas, they accompanied us in our hearts during the vigils and calls for peace.

KAIROS is seeking a dedicated, highly organized, relational, Global Partnerships coordinator who, as a member of the Partnership Team, supports KAIROS’ Africa partnerships programs and cross-cutting issues of climate change and global partnerships. On November 22, KAIROS sent a follow up letter to Prime Minister Trudeau during the four-day pause in the Hamas-Israel war. The letter reiterated the call for an immediate ceasefire and respect for international human rights and humanitarian law, including Canada’s support for UN resolutions supporting Palestinian rights – now more than ever. The letter repeats the urgent message in the Ecumenical Statement from October 18.

In the lead up to COP28, KAIROS held its third Climate Action Week from November 13 to 19. Co-sponsored by For the Love of Creation, the week focused on centering the voices from the Global South, who, like Indigenous peoples in the North, are the most impacted by the climate crisis and the least consulted on the development of climate policies and programs. Catch up on the Week’s events, reflections and actions.

KAIROS is honoured and delighted to have received the Mayworks Traditional Labour Arts Award for the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. KAIROS representatives, Alfredo Barahona, Caroline Sharp and Cheryl McNamara accepted the award on behalf of the organization during the Mayworks 2023 Labour Arts Awards Gala on November 4 at the famed United Steelworkers Hall in Toronto.

Candles for COP - December 8-10

For the Love of Creation invites you to participate in a candlelit vigil in your community on the weekend of December 8 to 10.

Candles for COP28 vigils will take place across the country on this middle weekend of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference. This will be a time to reflect and share our love for our planet, and our concern for ourselves, humanity and all our non-human relations at risk from climate change. It is also a time to share hopes for truly transformative action to happen at COP and through each other. Learn more about this campaign and find a vigil near you!
