In 2017, October 4th was officially recognized as a day to honour MMIWG. The fourth of October is also marked by Sisters in Spirit vigils that bring awareness and honour the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. October 4, the National Day of Action for MMIWG2S, is dedicated specifically to raise awareness for people to learn more about the violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit people and how they can support the 231 Calls to Justice of the National Inquiry’s Final Report.

Today, join us by reflecting on the concrete actions we can take to raise awareness and end this national tragedy.

Light a candle in your window this evening; talk about it with your family, friends and neighbours; and post about it on social media. Together, we can make a difference and put an end to the systemic violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2S+ people
