Deepa Venkatesan

Digital Communications Coordinator

As a Digital Communications Coordinator, Deepa Venkatesan brings four years of reporting and newsroom experience from India. Her work in online media campaigns spans from investigating about child rights and juvenile justice laws to covering socio-economic issues such as drought in rural India, illiteracy, gender activism, etc. She has been exploring new storytelling methods and has experimented with long form writing, radio, short films and social media. Her role volunteering for over 5 years as an English teacher and an educational support strategist with the NGO Make A Difference has been foundational in developing her interest in rallying for human rights; thus, motivating her to take up a role combining her passion and professional expertise at KAIROS Canada. Since her move to Canada, she has explored business writing and technical communications through her stints at a start-up and at a marketing magazine. Currently she is also a graduate student pursuing research on topics that intersect between new media technology and anthropology at York and Ryerson Universities through a joint M.A. in Communication & Culture Studies.
