Walking the Path to Reconciliation

Restoring Indigenous Community Economies
A 2-hour Learning/Action Forum

In many of Canada’s northern First Nations communities, between 60% and 90% of working age adults are unemployed. Why do Canadians tolerate multigenerational welfare dependency for our northern sisters and brothers when viable alternatives exist? In this 2-hour Learning /Action forum we will examine how we have created this situation of economic dependency and marginalization in northern First Nations, present various approaches to restoring local community economies, and ask how First Nations and non-First Nations people can work together to implement these changes in Manitoba.

Facilitator: Robert Miller has worked for over 25 years doing community economic and social development in First Nations in northern Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.

Sponsored by: KAIROS Cambrian/Agassiz and the Indigenous Awareness Education Committee, St. James Anglican Church and the Church of St Stephen & St Bede.

Monday, November 27, 7 to 9pm
St Stephen & St Bede Church
99 Turner Ave, off Mount Royal , south of Ness Ave.
