An information forum on human trafficking and modern slavery will be held on March 13, 2019, at Victoria Hall in Westmount. The event, “The Scared, The Scarred and Our Sacred Duty”, is a justice initiative hosted by St Matthias Church-Westmount.

Addressing this major global human rights issue, our keynote speaker will be Anthony Housefather MP, Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights who will discuss the recently released report of the Committee, “Moving Forward in The Fight Against Human Trafficking in Canada”. Kevin Dixon, the Executive Director of the International Justice Mission (Canada) – an organization with over 17 field offices, will provide an overview of trafficking worldwide as well as focusing on cybersex exploitation and the trafficking of children. Connie Sorio of KAIROS Canada will present an analysis of forced labour and slave-like working conditions and their links to human trafficking -including challenges in pursuing justice for victims and the prosecution of recruiters and employers who engage in labour exploitation and trafficking.
