EventsNational Day of Action: Indigenous Leaders and Supporters Say NO to Canada’s Unilateral Agenda

Monday, May 27, 2019 EDT @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This Monday, May 27, 2019 Indigenous leaders, treaty and inherent rights peoples and allies will come together in Ottawa to rally and march together to say NO to the federal government’s unilateral laws and policy changes. Earlier this month, Chiefs of several Nations issued a call to organize a National Day of Action against Canada’s termination agenda – the termination of pre-existing rights and Treaties that are recognized by Canada’s constitution. The unilateral government actions are intended to undermine Indigenous Inherent and Treaty rights. This rally is the kickoff to the National Day of Action that have other actions planned across the country. It is intended to bring attention to the government’s termination agenda with the intent of building a larger movement (Indigenous peoples, allies and friends) to stop several Bills (C-91, C-92 and C-97) making their way through Parliament, slated for Royal Assent June 21, 2019. People will convene on Parliament Hill to hear speeches from Chiefs, Elders, Youth and Peoples.

What?

Kickoff National Day of Action Rally – Treaty Chiefs Delegation and grassroots people to Announce Day of Action

When and Where?

Rally Point Meet at: Parliament Hill, Ottawa

When:

12:15pm – Elder Claudette Commanda (Algonquin Nation) Opens with Prayer and Welcomes Chiefs/ Peoples to Territory

12:30pm – Speakers: Chiefs, Elders, Youth, etc.

Why?

Since 2015 the federal government promised they would start a “renewed relationship” with the First Nations. However, the government has undermined the true Nation to Nation relationship. Its massive changes to federal policy, law and structure, which amount to a renewed Termination Plan. What we call White Paper 2.0. This rally is the first action to kick off the National Day of Action with planned actions happening across the Country in an effort to stop a new version of the 1969 white paper.
