Put Yourself in the Picture

Look who's put themselves in the picture!

National Day of Healing and Reconciliation
Photo Guidelines

As part of the KAIROS campaign for 2011-2012, Truth, Reconciliation & Equity: They Matter to Us! KAIROS invites you to put yourself in the picture and help us create a huge public witness for an equitable Canada! As Canadians we are not just observers of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s process but we are invited to be participants. We invite you and your community to join in the circle where real healing takes place. Step into action by demonstrating your commitment to being part of a better future, part of a different picture.

We want your best photos of the people in your church, community, school, or family holding a bold sign that says “Truth, Reconciliation & Equity: They Matter to Us!”

National Day of Healing and Reconciliation

May 26, 2012 is the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation. It starts a month long journey toward the national Truth and Reconciliation event in Saskatoon on June 21-24, 2012. KAIROS asks you, your congregation, parish, or worship community to join our campaign by putting yourself in the picture for Indigenous rights on this day. There are lots of ways to do this!

  • Be part of a massive public witness for Indigenous rights. Take a photo of your and your group holding a bold sign saying "Truth, Reconciliation & Equity: They matter to us! and send it to photos@kairoscanada.org. We will present your photos as part of our participation in the national Truth and Reconciliation event. We also display your creative contributions on Facebook and Flickr. Deadline is June 1, 2012.

  • Celebrate your hope for an equitable Canada by focussing on Indigenous rights in your regular worship service. We have lots of resources to make this easy for you, including a bulletin insert with prayers, action items, and a brief explanation of our campaign. We also have a complete Truth, Reconciliation & Equity workshop and worship service

Photo Guidelines

1) Gather your pals, your family, your colleagues, pet basset, or whole community, or anyone else who cares about creating a public witness in support of this campaign.
2) Get crafty! Your sign can be plain or fancy, big or small, use two colours or ten! Just make sure the letters are big and bold and ready for the photo op.
3) Say cheese! Take a digital photo. Make sure it’s the highest resolution possible – we want to be able to share your efforts on the web and in print, so it has to be a big file! Thumbnails won’t do.
4) Ask permission. KAIROS wants to display your efforts on our website, in print materials, and possibly other places. Make sure everyone in the photo is okay with that.
5) Give credit! Make sure to let us know who your masterful photographer is so that they can be credited in KAIROS materials.
6) Tell us about it! Who is in the picture? We’ll need the names of the participants or of the group and the date the picture was taken.
7) Send it in! Email your photo to photos@kairoscanada.org. Consider using your picture in a public ad in your local newspaper or other publications.

Don’t worry, we’re here to help if you need us. Contact Caroline Foster at cfoster@kairoscanada.org if you have any questions about “Putting yourself in the picture” or other activities related to KAIROS Campaign 2011-2012.
