Why migrant justice matters
The people who sustain our communities deserve dignity and rights.
Every year, migrant workers come to Canada to work in farms, greenhouses, food processing, caregiving and other essential sectors. Their labour helps sustain communities and industries across the country.
Yet many workers face conditions that can leave them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Employer-tied status, unsafe housing, barriers to health care and workplace protections, family separation and limited pathways to permanent residence can make it difficult to speak out when rights are violated.
These are not simply individual experiences. They raise deeper questions about how Canada’s immigration and labour systems value people, work and human dignity.
Kairos believes migrant workers should be treated not only as workers, but as people with rights, families, hopes and futures.

Kairos offers two interactive migrant justice workshops designed to help communities move beyond statistics and understand how Canada’s migrant labour system affects everyday lives.
Experiential learning
Migrant Worker Exercise
Step into the experience.
The Migrant Worker Exercise, originally developed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, uses role-play and guided participation to take people through different stages of a migrant worker’s journey.
Participants encounter decisions, barriers and power imbalances related to recruitment, employment, immigration status, housing, health and safety, family separation and access to rights.
Why it matters
Statistics can tell us inequality exists. Experience can help us understand what that inequality feels like. The exercise creates space for empathy, difficult questions and recognition that many challenges are connected to policies and systems—not isolated incidents.

A Migrant Justice Workshop for Church Communities
What does our faith ask of us?
This Kairos workshop invites churches and faith communities to explore migrant workers’ realities through the lens of faith, human dignity and justice.
Through facilitated learning, reflection and discussion, participants consider our shared responsibility to welcome the stranger, join people experiencing injustice and uphold the dignity of every person.
Why it matters
Faith communities have long played an important role in movements for justice. This workshop helps churches move from awareness to reflection, and from reflection to action—asking not only “What is happening?” but “What are we called to do?”

From learning to action
A workshop can start a much bigger conversation.
Migrant justice does not end when the workshop ends. Communities can continue the journey by sharing learning, building relationships with migrant worker organizations, engaging decision-makers and supporting advocacy for stronger rights and protections.
Because migrant workers should not have to choose between keeping their jobs and protecting their rights.
