KAIROS at the opening march of the World Social Forum 2016

World Social Forum March - Aug 9, 2016

Late in the afternoon on August 9, tens of thousands of activists from Canada and  abroad met at the edge of Parc La Fontaine, waving banners of all colours, excited to begin the opening march for the World Social Forum 2016. The march began with singing. A sea of demonstrators, representing countless global social movements, then flooded the streets of downtown in a walk of solidarity. Downtown drivers were redirected away from the main roads.  Even in a crowd with this many people, it was not unusual to cross paths with colleagues. KAIROS members carried a banner, and along the way, were joined by partners from across Canada. Finally, at sunset, crowds convened in the square at Place des Festivals to hear the opening statements from organizers as well as live performers. KAIROS looks forward to co-animating its upcoming events.
