Sign up for our poverty e-update: email Jill Carr Harris at jcarrharris[at]kairoscanada[dot]org; see the latest edition and archive on the resources page.

Educate yourself: Learn about the many root causes of poverty. Learn about the long history of anti-poverty action, especially action led by low income people and communities. See the End Poverty links page for ideas.

Join with others at your church or place of worship to reflect on how you can respond to poverty in your community. Make an action plan together.

Link up with anti-poverty initiatives in your community.  Refer groups who need support to the KAIROS Anti-Poverty Fund.

Challenge your own stereotypes. Cooperate with people of all incomes and classes in your community by assisting with programs they identify as a priority. Some programs may focus on food, housing or child care. Others may focus on challenging stereotypes or influencing decision makers in your community. Be open to them all and be as inclusive and respectful as possible within your group.

Advocate: Call on provincial, federal and territorial governments to implement “poverty reduction strategies”; advocate for a national child care program, decent minimum wages, and a national housing program with good funding. See the End Poverty links page for ideas.

Stay informed: Receive updates about national and provincial church-based anti-poverty actions through KAIROS.

Learn about and support the many groups who act against poverty and stereotyping of the poor—and FOR a good living for all.
