Manitoba Government Extends Health Care Coverage for Seasonal Agricultural Workers

DR-MJ-11-12-Migrants gathering

The hope is that seasonal agricultural workers in other provinces will receive the same level of health care as their colleagues in Manitoba. It is possible!

In Canada, migrant workers and their allies are largely invisible, except for reports of tragedies or abuse.  Very rarely do we hear about the many and varied ways that these hundreds of thousands people contribute positively to the Canadian economy.

So, it is encouraging to be able to share some positive news. The Government of Manitoba has acknowledged the importance of migrant workers to Canada’s standard of living by extending health care coverage for seasonal agricultural workers. The hope is that other provincial governments will follow Manitoba’s lead.
