Tracking down the carbon in your life...
Want to reduce your carbon footprint by a few sizes? Or get together with like-minded people and link the personal with the bigger picture?
Check out the KAIROS Carbon Sabbath Initiative (CSI). CSI groups will meet in homes or places of worship to learn about climate change and how they can make a difference in Canada and around the world. Read on, and visit our campaign site for tools on reducing your carbon footprint:

CSI Groups will meet together regularly to:
* Look more deeply the issues of climate change, particularly on how the use of fossil fuels in our culture contributes to climate change. They’ll reflect on the relationship between their faith, climate change, and justice.
* Commit to personal lifestyle changes that will reduce their carbon footprint by tracking their carbon use in their everyday lives.
* Support each other in their efforts to make a difference in their learning and in their commitments.
* Engage in a community effort to impact their church, community, and/or government.
KAIROS is offering leadership-training workshops across Canada from the fall of 2008 onwards. These aim to train and support people to go back into their communities and start a CSI group. KAIROS is hoping that the growth of CSI groups around the country will contribute to a movement for social change in this country. We believe that CSI is an ideal venue to bring together both personal transformation and advocacy.
These workshops also aim to strengthen and expand KAIROS connections across the country. KAIROS is committed to ongoing follow-up contact and support. We are developing tools that will assist groups in their evolution. They include worship resources, regional carbon calculator (both print and Excel online), advocacy strategies that plug into KAIROS campaign nationally as well as locally, and theological reflection resources.
