REFUGEES & MIGRANTS PROGRAM CO-ORDINATOR
(Interim contract)

DURATION OF CONTRACT: August 30 – December 22, 2006, Full-time
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, August 18, 2006
OFFICE LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario
COMPENSATION: $3850/month plus 4% vacation pay.

KAIROS is looking for a creative, motivated individual to assist with our refugee and migrants program for an interim period to complete our two-year project “Widening Our Tents”. As a member of our International Human Rights and Peace-building Team, you will collaborate with churches, unions and other refugee and migrant support networks to pursue current advocacy initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Convene Refugee and Migration Working Group
  • Continue current advocacy initiatives on refugee and migrant rights; monitor and respond to related political/policy developments; provide verbal/written briefings as required; draft correspondence and make representations to government officials as needed
  • Coordinate Steering Committee meetings of national Migrant Justice Network
  • Promote Borderless DVD and facilitate educational opportunities on migrant justice issues in churches, KAIROS network and general public in collaboration with Working Group and KAIROS Network Coordinator
  • Assist Refugee and Migration Working Group with evaluation of project, identifying learnings and recommendations for future directions

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of issues and policies related to refugee and migrant rights
  • Familiar with KAIROS’ advocacy initiatives in this area
  • Demonstrated experience in social justice advocacy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian churches ecumenical context; comfortable working in faith-based organization
  • Competency in standard office computer applications
  • Proficiency in French an asset
