AFRICA PARTNERSHIPS


POSITION: Program Coordinator – Africa Partnerships
REPORTS TO: Team Leader, Human Rights & Peacebuilding
OFFICE LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario
CLASSIFICATION: Permanent, full time
Union position at level 4
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $41,955 – 46,205


KAIROS: Ecumenical Justice Initiatives seeks a creative, dedicated program coordinator to work with our Human Rights/Peacebuilding team and Africa partners in promoting human rights and justice in sub-Sahara Africa.

The program coordinator for Africa partnerships will oversee partnership relations, program development and coordination, project management, policy development, and advocacy with respect to the Africa region. Conflict/peacebuilding and economic justice are major thematic priorities for this region.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and nurtures partnership relations in Africa
  • Project management, including proposal preparation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation
  • Facilitates input of partner perspectives and recommendations to relevant KAIROS policies and advocacy initiatives.
  • Prepares policy briefs, letters, and other advocacy documents relevant to designated region.
  • Public representation to the KAIROS constituency, media, government and others to further KAIROS/partner strategic objectives

Requirements

  • Degree in International Studies, Political Science or Public Policy, Peace and Conflict Studies or a related field, or
  • equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in international development/global justice work.
  • Ability to understand and present work in a Christian theological context.
  • Experience proposing, funding and managing international development projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of major Africa issues of social justice
  • Proven excellence in written and oral communications and in making public presentations. Ability to communicate
  • complex information comprehensibly and to act as a spokesperson on issues related to KAIROS and area of work.
  • Proven ability to advocate with government and international organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management and grant proposals.
  • Competency in standard office computer applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail).
  • Ability to travel overseas for periods from 2-4 weeks, up to twice a year.

KAIROS, the ecumenical organization of 11 churches and church-related organizations, works for social justice. Our program areas include: corporate social responsibility, ecology, and Aboriginal rights, international human rights and peace-building, support to refugees and migrants, anti-poverty work in Canada.
