The closing march of the World Social Forum brought tens of thousands into the streets carrying banners and placards and chanting messages of resistance and hope. It was energizing to walk side by side with committed people from around the world.

The march, with its messages "No to War and No to the FTAA" was a fitting way to pull together key themes from the Forum — peace, human rights and trade. It symbolized a growing sense of solidarity among people involved in justice and peace issues world-wide. Moreover, the Forum experience confirmed that church-based groups like KAIROS are ideally structured to deepen this solidarity and networking. With our connections on local, regional, national and international levels, we are well positioned to join with labour groups, women's groups and other faiths to work for change in Canada and around the world.

In faith from Porto Alegre,
Sue and Fay
