Worship Remembering Uprooted People
Contents
Greeting
I will light a light in the name of God
who lit the world and breathed the breath of life into me.
God above us, God beside us, God beneath us;
the beginning, the end, the everlasting one. Amen
Sentence
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant crops
and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses for others
to dwell in; no longer will they plant for others to eat the harvest.
For as the days of a tree will the days of my people be; my chosen
ones will enjoy the work of their hands. (Isaiah 65: 21-22) Amen,
Come let us worship.
As we gather today, we witness and express our solidarity with
those who have been uprooted from their homes and communities as
a result of violence, deteriorating economies and fragile environments.
Our gathering is a part of a year long world wide remembrance with
Christians and people of faith around the globe.

Keeper of heaven and earth, guardian of our coming and going forth,
of our times of tender reflection, and our moments of turmoil, our
life is fragile.
We violate each other in personal relationships, as nations, as
inept keepers of life's beauty.
Sharpen our sensitivities.
Stir in us preference for listening over speaking, for tenderness
over aggression, for solidarity and community over alienation.
Deepen for us the meaning of the resurrection,
that we not only speak words of transformation but embody those
words in our lives.
Healer, Redeemer, Sustainer, Source of Hope and joy, we offer thanks
and praise.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Amen.

From the Book of Luke
So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He appeared
to be going further, but they constrained him, saying, "Stay
with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent."
So he went in to stay with them. When he was at table with them,
he took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them.
And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished

From the Book of Ruth
Then she started with her daughters-in-law to return from the country
of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the LORD
had visited his people and given them food. So she set out from
the place where she was, with her two daughters-in-law, and they
went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go, return each
of you to her mother's house. May the LORD deal kindly with you,
as you have dealt with the dead and with me. The LORD grant that
you may find a home, each of you in the house of her husband"
Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept.
...
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. And she
said, "See, your sister-in- law has gone back to her people
and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law." But Ruth
said Entreat me not to leave you or to return from following you;
for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge; your
people shall be my people, and your God my God; where you die I
will die, and there will I be buried. Hear what the Spirit is saying

From the Book of Luke
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell
among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving
him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw
him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he
came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But
a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he
saw him, he had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought
him to an inn, and took care of him. Hear what the Spirit is saying

From the Book of Mark
And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his
disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the
son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry
out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out
all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me" And Jesus
stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind
man, saying to him, "Take heart; rise, he is calling you."
And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. And
Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?"
And the blind man said to him, Master, let me receive my sight."
And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you
well." And immediately he received his sight and followed him
on the way. Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches. Thanks

From the Book of Isaiah
And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the
foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer
of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. Hear what the

From the Book of Revelation
Then he showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal,
flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle
of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the
tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit
each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the
nations. Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches. Thanks

Song: Draw the Circle Wide
Prayer for the journey
God of the Way, you are the road we travel, and the sign we follow,
you are the bread for the journey, and the wine of arrival.
Guide us as we follow in your way, holding on to each other, reaching
out to your beloved world.
And when we stray, seek us out and find us,
set our feet on the path again, and lead us safely home. Amen.
