'No to the FTAA' Campaign extended to October 31
Activists across the Americas, led by the cross-sector, cross-border
Hemispheric Social Alliance, have extended the “No to the
FTAA” Campaign to October 31 2003. KAIROS, working with Common
Frontiers, will continue to promote the “No to the FTAA”
petition and gather signatures until that date. Canadian petitions
will be assembled with other signs of resistance from across the
hemisphere and delivered to the Trade Ministers’ November
gathering in Miami.
This fall is expected to be a key moment to counter a trade agenda
that puts profits before people. The World Trade Organisation’s
5th Ministerial Meeting will be held September 10 – 13th in
Cancun and the FTAA Trade negotiators will meet in Miami November
20th and 21st. Moreover, there is a WTO mini-ministerial being planned
in Montreal in July, and a Mini-Summit of the Americas being planned
for Mexico at the end of November.
Please sign the petition and continue to distribute widely. The
petition and many background documents for local activists can be
found at our FTAA resources section.
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AND SPREAD THE WORD. Click here:
