Climate Change Action E-kit

For many years, the Canadian church community has focused on the issue of climate change as both a theological, as well as ethical, concern. It is a dramatic illustration of the destructive impact of modern societies on the well-being of God's creation Prior to an international meeting in 1997 (at which the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated), a climate change petition campaign was coordinated through Canadian church networks. During Year 3 of the Jubilee Campaign on 'Restoring Right Relations' (Renewing the Earth), climate change was identified as a central concern and people were again asked to speak out in support of the Kyoto Protocol. These and subsequent KAIROS actions helped to bring about Canadian ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in 2002. Now, KAIROS efforts are dedicated to the implementation of Kyoto by individuals, corporations and governments.
