KAIROS Announces New Board Executive

(Toronto) – - KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives
is pleased to announce the following appointments to the executive
of its board of directors effective January 1, 2008:
Cheryl Curtis (Chair): Cheryl Curtis is the Executive Director
of the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). PWRDF
is the Anglican agency for development, relief, refugees and justice.
Prior to this role, Cheryl worked with the Toronto Conference of
the United Church of Canada as Conference Minister for Social Justice
and Ethnic Ministries for eleven years and with the Working Group
on Refugee Resettlement, an Anglican and United Church ministry,
as Executive Director.
Omega Bula (Vice-Chair) – Omega Bula is Executive
Minister in the Justice Global and Ecumenical Relations Unit of
the United Church of Canada, a post she has held since 2005. Omega
has also worked as UCC Area Secretary for Southern Africa for eight
years and as General Council Minister for Racial Justice for two
years. She is a social worker and sociologist with a commitment
to working locally and globally on issues and processes that enhance
transformative justice in church and society.
Jane Orion Smith (Treasurer) - Jane Orion Smith is the General
Secretary of the Canadian Friends Service Committee (CFSC), Canadian
Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and
has been reappointed to the position of treasurer of the KAIROS
board for a second term. The CFSC is the peace and justice arm of
Quakers in Canada. Jane Orion’s work experience spans the
peace, environment, development and arts sectors. She has done extensive
voluntary service and academic work among Quakers, in Canada and
internationally.
Jim Dekker (Secretary) - Rev. James Dekker has been a minister
in the Christian Reformed Church in North America for 30 thirty
years. He is currently serving as the senior pastor of Covenant
CRC in St. Catharines. Jim has always been passionate about social
justice and has engaged in a variety of activities to promote and
educate churches in the area of justice.
Benoit Bariteau (Member at Large) - is the Associate General
Secretary of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishop. Mr. Bariteau
holds degrees in theology as well as in administration. He has served
several Catholic dioceses in Quebec and held many administrative
positions within the public service for Quebec. His expertise is
in administration, health services, higher education, finance and
strategic analysis.
The KAIROS board of directors is also comprised of: Stephen Allen,
the Presbyterian Church in Canada; Ryan Andersen, the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Canada; Michael Casey, Canadian Catholic Organization
for Development and Peace; Alice Jean (AJ) Finlay,(past Vice Chair),
the Anglican Church of Canada; Joe Gunn, the Canadian Religious
Conference (CRC); Paul E. Hansen, C.Ss.R. (past Chair), the CRC;
the Rev. Gordon Haynes, the Presbyterian Church in Canada; Joanne
McFadden, United Church of Canada; and Lois Coleman Neufeld of the
Mennonite Central Committee Canada.
