Analysis of trade issues
This section is designed for teachers, students, unions, and activists
of all kinds. See also our section on current
trade campaigns and our theological
reflections on trade. Some documents offer background on key
proposed trade agreements such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas
(FTAA). Others analyze agreements already in force, such as NAFTA.
And many focus on church perspectives: In 2004, church representatives
from Canada, the US, and Mexico came together in a community of
solidarity in Stony Point, New York. They pledged to cooperate ecumenically
for fair and just trade agreements and to promote an economy that
serves life. Some key documents for that gathering can be found
here and on the Canadian Council of Churches’ website.
