Bridget Tolley of Families of Sisters in Spirit marches on Parliament Hill in support of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
On October 4, 2012 vigils to honour missing and murdered Indigenous sisters, daughters, mothers, grandmothers, and friends will be held across Canada.
KAIROS fully supports these vigils. They are an important part of the journey towards truth, justice and reconciliation that is shared by Indigenous and non-Indigenous people on Turtle Island.
The vigils are being organized by the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), and Families of Sisters in Spirit (FSIS).
Families of Sisters in Spirit is an emerging grassroots volunteer organization led by families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. The FSIS vigil will be held in the evening, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
To find an NWAC vigil in your area, or to work with local Indigenous groups to plan a vigil or other event, visit the NWAC site .

The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is a national organization representing Aboriginal women since 1974. NWAC’s mandate is to achieve equality for all Aboriginal women in Canada.
Get your faith community and the wider community involved in listening, learning, and taking action. Visit the KAIROS action page for more ideas and to get started. Let us know if you’re planning a vigil so that we can help with promotion.
Over the past five years, tens of thousands of people have attended vigils in at least 84 communities as part of this movement for social change. Together we call for immediate action to end violence against Indigenous women and girls. Join us on October 4th and throughout the year as we stand in solidarity with the families and friends of the hundreds of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
Vigils and gatherings will also take place on the weekend before October 4 and throughout the year in locations across the country
